When Is a Breast Uplift (Mastopexy) Also Needed?

Breast augmentation increases volume, and in some cases of mild ptosis (droop), careful placement of an implant may also help with the appearance of a lift. However, breast augmentation technically does not addresssignificant sagging.

If your breasts are drooping due to pregnancy or breastfeeding, weight changes, or ageing, a breast uplift (mastopexy) may be recommended, either at the same time as augmentation or as a staged, separate procedure.

A mastopexy reshapes the breast by removing excess skin and repositioning the nipple-areolar complex so that the whole breast and nipple are lifted. It is similar in principle to a breast reduction, but without reducing volume. In some cases, a small amount of tissue is removed to improve shape. Mr. Sadideen often also combines augmentation mastopexy (in cases of excess skin and loose connective tissue, or revision cases) with GalaFlex scaffold (P4HB) to help support the framework, and prevent further droop. GalaFlex is the most advanced “scaffold” that helps to improve internal scar tissue strength, and can be referred to as “an internal bra”.

Recovery, Scarring and Long-Term Results

Recovery After Surgery

Recovery varies between individuals, but most patients follow a similar pattern. Early mobilisation, including walking, is encouraged immediately after surgery, and most patients take around one week off work. Swelling, bruising and mild discomfort are common in the initial period, and strenuous activity should be avoided for four to six weeks while the tissues settle. Mr Sadideen provides detailed post-operative instructions, including garment use and activity guidance, to support safe and comfortable healing throughout. With Preservé breast augmentation, the recovery may be quicker in terms of return to earlier activity, however in some cases the “tightness” of the internal architecture (that has been preserved and not divided) may make the breast feel “tighter” and “higher” until it has all stretched out, over the course of several weeks (and possibly months).

Scar Management

Incisions are typically placed within the breast crease, known as the inframammary fold. These are typically short/small as Mr. Sadideen has developed a very large experience in small scar breast augmentation, and teaches visiting surgeons regularly. Depending on your anatomy and whether an uplift is required alongside augmentation, scars may be limited to around the areola in select cases (peri-areolar), or involve a vertical or inverted-T pattern (anchor-shape) where a formal lift and tightening is performed. He performed reconstructive surgery on me for a MOH surgery that had an  8cm hole in the forehead (after 6 rounds of MOH Surgery).  He reconstructed the hole with collagen matrix and a graft in such a very professional manner with optimal results. However, the entire process with Dr Haz was incredibly easy and stress free. Any and all questions were answered promptly and with care, giving me a sense of reassurance throughout. The work itself was flawless and I’m incredibly happy with the results. For the first time in my entire adult life, I was able to wear a bikini this summer due to the exemplary work of Dr Haz.

In short, Dr Haz and his team have been extremely attentive and responsive, providing excellent care throughout the whole process. The results themselves have been amazing.
